Get started in the web app
The first-run checklist: six steps from an empty office to agents doing real work for you, each ticked off by what actually happened.
The first time the office owner signs in, the office opens Get started (/get-started). Until every step is done, or you hide it, Get started is first in the sidebar with your progress (2/6). Owners and admins see it.
Each step checks the office itself, not a checkbox: it is done when the thing is done, whether you did it in the web app, with officectl or from Claude.
| Step | Done when | Where |
|---|---|---|
| 1. A model credential | An Anthropic API key or a Claude subscription token is in the secret store (read the way Settings reads it). | Model credentials |
| 2. A kit or a first hire | An agent other than the three founding ones (chief of staff, office engineer, agent resources) is hired. While a hire or kit PR waits for its merge, the step is in progress. | Starter kits, Hire your first agent |
| 3. A notification channel, tested | One of your channels has delivered something: Add and send a test on Account counts. A channel that never delivered is in progress. | Notifications |
| 4. A connected service | The office holds a signed-in account for at least one connection (Slack or any other). A declared connection with no account is in progress. | Connections, Agents in Slack |
| 5. Your first mail or chat, and its run | A run started by mail you sent, or by your chat message, has finished. While it runs, the step links to it so you can watch it live. | Mail & chat |
| 6. A daily digest | You chose a digest time on Account → Notifications. | Daily digest |
Steps 3, 5 and 6 are about you; the others about the office, so a second admin sees steps 1, 2 and 4 already done.
Hide it#
Hide this checklist removes Get started from your sidebar (for you only). Bring it back from Settings → Get started. When every step is done it leaves the sidebar on its own, and the page says so. Ledger: onboarding.dismissed / onboarding.restored.
A good first hour#
- Store the credential:
officectl secrets set models.anthropic_key(ormodels.claude_oauth_tokenfor a personal office). - Apply a starter kit, and merge its pull request.
- On Account → Notifications, add an ntfy or Telegram channel; it sends a test straight away.
- Connect Slack (or another service) on Connections.
- Chat with one of your new agents ("What can you do for me this week?") and watch the run.
- Set a daily digest for tomorrow morning, then open Today when it arrives.
